SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
REVISED SUBMISSION SCHEDULE: We now accept submissions during the first fifteen days of April, July, October and January. We hope writers whose work suits our journal will mark their calendars and send submissions during these periods. In turn, we will strive to respond by the end of the month to all submissions sent within a submission period. Sometimes, however, our lives will get in the way. We apologize for delays and failures to respond. GENERAL 1. Please send submissions within the body of an E-mail. We design on a Macintosh and have little skill or desire to convert files prior to the acceptance of a submission. 2. The God Particle has no word count limitations, but we consider the eyes and patience of Internet readers. 3. If you confuse the name of the journal with a thematic restriction, you limit yourself and your submissions. We publish pieces related to science, physics, metaphysics and religion; and we publish work that has little or nothing to do with those areas. 4. As with any publication you submit to, read what we publish to learn what we like. We seek fine literature of any genre, especially work that transcends genre. 5. We read submissions four times per year, during the first fifteen days of these months: APRIL, JULY, OCTOBER and JANUARY. We strive to respond to all timely submissions by the ends of those months. Unsolicited work sent during other times will usually be ignored; exceptions are granted to those whose work has been solicited. 6. Simultaneous submissions are welcomed. Please notify us, though, and let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere. In turn, we will try to respond promptly. If you have not heard after one month, feel free to contact us. 7. Multiple submissions are discouraged, except in the cases of poems, photographs and very short prose pieces (under 800 words). 8. Previously published submissions are fine if the work has appeared only in print. We ask that reprints appear nowhere else on the Internet until six months after publication in The God Particle. 9. Please send submissions to the appropriate editor (see below). Include the submission's category and title in your subject line (e.g., FICTION - 'My Story'). Submit work no more than once per reading period. 10. Unfortunately, we do not and cannot pay. The God Particle is truly a labor of love. FICTION 1. Send fiction submissions to this address, replacing "at" with "@" and leaving no spaces: fiction at thegodparticle.com.
2. Experimental, innovative and unconventional stories will be welcomed with open arms, as will excellent examples of more traditional storytelling. 3. Excellent speculative fiction will also be met with open arms, especially if it crosses or transcends genres. The editor has tried to figure out what the genre name "slipstream" really means, but it sounds like something we would be interested in. 4. We have a fondness for faux documents of the authentic variety, which is to say that the document must at least verge on reality. Goofy satire doesn't appeal to us. 5. Send only one story per reading period, unless you send short-shorts, flash fictions or microfictions. POETRY 1. We love good poems, but good poems are very rare indeed. Send yours to this address, replacing "at" with "@" and leaving no spaces: poetry at thegodparticle.com.
2. Traditional poetic forms have their place, and we have a place for some traditional forms. In most instances, however, a good poem dictates its own form. 3. If your poem rhymes, some other journal will be more likely to publish it. 4. Send no more than five poems per reading period; and if you send more than one, please group them within a single E-mail. 5. If E-mail text limitations ruin your poem's format, query for permission to send an attachment. NONFICTION 1. Essays, memoirs, interviews and creative nonfiction of any length are welcomed. The flash essay can be particularly effective. Send yours to this address, replacing "at" with "@" and leaving no spaces: editor at thegodparticle.com. 2. Academic essays of any sort, especially the undergraduate term paper, belong elsewhere. 3. Though we favor personal essays, excellent prose remains a crucial element of any essay. 4. Please send no more than one essay per reading period. 5. We long for essays and memoirs (not reviews!) about classic, independent, or foreign film; spiritual matters; science (rendered for the lay reader); and insights into the human experience. 1. Before submitting, send a query letter that describes your submission. We are, truly, open to anything--well, not pornography or excessive violence, but most anything else. Send what you have to this address, replacing "at" with "@" and leaving no spaces: editor at thegodparticle.com. 2. The editor has a special fondness for the traditional folk instruments of Europe. 3. Streaming video is something we have not yet hosted, but we hope to do so soon. We also hope you'll know at least as much about it as we do. 4. Photo collections should have some cohesion. WORK THAT DEFIES CATEGORIZATION We're interested. Send a query letter that describes your work. If we aren't interested, perhaps we can recommend another publication that might be. Send queries to this address, replacing "at" with "@" and leaving no spaces: editor at thegodparticle.com. AN IMPORTANT REMINDER Please, send no attachments. The editor does pretty well with most of the attachments he has formed in his lifetime, but he doesn't want any more. Text E-mails only, please. |
